Military Funds Mind-Reading Science

August 18th, 2008 . by Michael Ostrolenk

From Military.com

LOS ANGELES - Here’s a mind-bending idea: The U.S. military is paying scientists to study ways to read people’s thoughts. The hope is that the research could someday lead to a gadget capable of translating the thoughts of Soldiers who suffered brain injuries in combat or even stroke patients in hospitals.

But the research also raises concerns that such mind-reading technology could be used to interrogate the enemy.

Armed with a $4 million grant from the Army, scientists are studying brain signals to try to decipher what a person is thinking and to whom the person wants to direct the message.

The project is a collaboration among researchers at the University of California, Irvine; Carnegie Mellon University; and the University of Maryland.

Thats a really good idea, it would benefit all the security personals in the world, if US can share that, when found. So that no criminal could be out moving freely

The openness and transparency of America has always relied upon those features to prevent the necessity of reading someone’s thoughts since most are willing to give their opinions in a free press society. Only when the press becomes corrupted, or when small groups attempt to take control of the masses is it a loss of freedom so that minds must be read instead.

Hey There - I saw this news story also.

That said, it wasn’t entirely clear to me if the neuroscience is good enough to determine with a high degree of reliability whether someone is engaged in a terrorist plot.

    Thanks,

    James

With the country’s need for security and study like this is helpful. This something to be alarmed of. And our option is to sit back and scratch our heads? Definitely no! Like for example, we need to increase the workforce and people should really start looking into homeland security jobs for those midlifers out there.

Depending on the focus of your job in homeland security, and primarily if you have technical skills, you could earn anywhere from $75,000 to six figures if you rise into management. Superman probably didn’t get paid that much! I love how much I learned about these kind of opportunities and how people could help our country at midpointers.com
